Matson has advised the following related to fuel surcharge:
March 26, 2026
We have been closely monitoring fuel prices since the start of the war with Iran, which began February 28, 2026. Approximately two weeks later, on March 13, we announced that Matson would increase its Fuel Related Surcharge (FRSC) effective April 12, 2026. This Advisory will supersede and replace that announcement.
Beginning on March 18, 2026, unprecedented attacks targeted and struck Middle East energy infrastructure in multiple countries, causing another significant oil price shock. During this time period, Matson has also seen costs for conventional fuel diverge meaningfully from some historical benchmarks. Today, our cost increases are aligning more closely with “OPEC Basket” prices, which have jumped even more significantly than Brent Crude. The OPEC Basket price per barrel has increased approximately 90% from late February.
In response to these extraordinary circumstances, Matson will be further adjusting its FRSC to higher than previously announced levels. We are also deviating from our normal 30-day courtesy period for Hawaii and Guam/CNMI and will be implementing this change in 17 days. Effective April 12, 2026, Matson’s FRSC will be 28.0% for Hawaii and 29.0% for Guam/CNMI. On April 26, the FRSC for Micronesia will increase to 31.0%.
It is possible fuel prices will remain elevated for a sustained period but, as always, we will monitor trends closely and will adjust the surcharge accordingly.
